Sir George is Vice-President of the Hampshire Association for the Care of the Blind, and he dropped in for tea at St Annes Hall, Suffolk Rd Andover. He talks to Arthur Tucker, who is doing some wickerwork, while Rod Balance gives some advice.
“These fortnightly session for those who are partially sighted are really appreciated; volunteers collect the members from their homes, give them a cup of tea, organise a raffle or other entertainment – and take them home afterwards. The companionship and hospitality is really appreciated.”
Sir George praised the volunteers under Juliet Herbert who did all the work.
“As I went round, I picked up a fair amount of case work; in particular, many people found it difficult to cross Charlton Rd from the bus-stop to get to Andover Hospital. I am now pursuing this.”
