To commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Whitchurch Town Council have initiated an Allotment competition, which they hope to hold every year from now on. Jody Schekter presented the first prize of £100 of his farm's produce to Vic Jordan, the Champion, and Geoff Knappett presented a voucher from the Newbury Building Society to the best newcomer. Councillor Jackie Day, the Mayor of Whitchurch, also presented the Champion with a Diamond Jubilee Shield. The group posed for a picture on the site of the Allotment winner at the end.

"My thanks to Mike Kean, one of the town councillors, for masterminding the competition, and to the judges, Jackie Day, Geoff Knappett, Graham Burgess and Claire Isbester."
