The Awareness Campaign for the Police Commissioner elections in November reached Andover, with leaflets being distributed in the Chantry Centre by Judy Venables, and volunteers from the Police Authority.

"There will probably be six or more candidates for these elections in Hampshire on November 15th, and it is very important that there should be a good turnout. I welcome this publicity campaign, so people know more about the roles of the police and crime commissioners, and can engage in this extension of democracy. At the moment, the police authorities are less accountable than a directly elected police and crime commissioner will be, but they need a good turnout so they have the necessary mandate".

Judy Venables, from Quarley, has been on the Police Authority and is on the transitional committee, handing over powers to the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner.
