Guest speaker at the North West Hants Supper Club, organised by the Conservative Policy Forum, was Michael Mates, MP for East Hants. A former N. Ireland Minister, Michael Mates expressed concern at the weapons now available to the Real IRA, which were relatively easy to acquire and fire. He felt the best policy was to pursue the path started by John Major, followed now by Tony Blair, of building a concensus between moderate Unionists and moderate Republicans. He was concerned at what might happen, if David Trimble fell.
50 guests attended the function held at Andover Down.
