Emma Way, Chairwoman of Andover Market for All Seasons invited Sir George to launch what started as the Andover WI Market, with it's new brand. "Back in 1946, a small market stall was set up in Andover's George Yard, and a group of women sold home produced goods on their table. By the end of the morning, the first Women's Institute market in Andover had taken £4." Sir George opened the market's direct descendant, Andover Market for All Seasons, which continues the tradition of providing home-made goods and top quality produce direct to customers.
"Emma explained that the organisation is now a co-operative, but they share the profits with this year's good cause, which is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. I was most impressed by the quality of the goods on offer, and invested in a quiche, some lettuce, and some freshly laid eggs. I was kindly presented with a chocolate cake, and I wish all those who take part in this project well."
Sir George said that Andover High Street was built to accommodate a market, and it was great to have this market continuing throughout the years.
