Thruxton Village Fete was opened by Sir George Young. The night before, the tents and marquees had been vandalised, but order was restored before the formal opening at 2pm.
Last year, as a result of a special Jubilee fete, over £3,000 was raised for the church, the pre-school, the gardening club and other locally based organisations. This year they hope to raise some £2,000.
Live music was provided by Robin Geard and his band, and there were a variety of attractions including a challenge to land a golf ball on a £20 note, in which case the putter kept the note.
Chairman of the fete was Charles Milner-Williams, who said he would be handing over responsibility in the following year, after 19 years of organising village fetes.
