The veteran sports broadcaster from ITN Dickie Davies formally opened Penton’s village fete, held once every two years. Dickie Davies lives in the nearby village of Littleton, just outside Winchester, and was warmly welcomed by those who followed his broadcasts in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Ivor Gwynne-Davies was Master of Ceremonies, with Paul Booth looking after the loud speaker system. The fete raises funds for the church and the village hall, and this year there was a BBQ and beer tent, a dog show, jugglers, music by the Wyvern Band, an army tank and a display of vintage vehicles.
