A Leaving Service was held at Christ Church,Smannell for the Reverend Thomas Wharton. After four and a half years looking after the two churches in Smannell and Enham Alamein, Thomas Wharton is going to West End, in the south of the county, to take up a new ministry.

At the end of the service, one of the churchwardens, Mrs Pete Bowker, gave Thomas a mobile communion set, for visiting parishioners who are too ill to come to church; and his wife Vessy was presented with a cakestand. At the beginning of the service, the Reverend Andrew Ashdown spoke in appreciation of what Thomas had done for the churches during his time there and said he would be greatly missed.

The Mayor of Test Valley Borough Council, Cllr Mrs Janet Whiteley was in attendance, along with her husband, Cllr Neville Whiteley, and Cllr Phil North.
