Su and Raj Vadera have run the stores and Post Office in Woolton Hill for sixteen years, but have recently left and moved to Newbury. Sir George presented Raj with the proceeds of a collection from their many friends and customers in the village and surrounding area. "At a time when many village stores and Sub Post Offices were closing, Su and Raj not only kept going but saw their shop flourish because they offered a good quality service".
"In 2007, they beat off fierce competition to scoop a national award - the prestigious Golden Ticket - as one of the best community Post Offices UKwide and for their outstanding sales performance. Su was an active member of the East Woodhay Charities, providing relief and charitable donations for those in need. This often included donations for winter fuel and providing funds for school trips for those who could not afford them".
Sir George said that customers remembered Su's kindness, and Raj's unique sense of humour. At a packed gathering in Woolton Village Hall, villagers applauded Raj as he accepted the gift, and said how much he, his wife and son had enjoyed the area. He said he was grateful for a visa to return to Woolton Hill from Newbury!
