Sir George visited Royal Mail's Andover Delivery Office, and passed on Christmas wishes and encouragment to postmen and women at this, their busiest time of the year.

Sir George was shown round by the local Delivery Office Manager Terry Pyke, and met the postmen and women who were working hard sorting and delivering all the cards and parcels in the Andover area in the run up to Christmas. "I very much enjoyed meeting the staff, many of whom I have got to know over the years, including my own postman, John Gilmore. I was struck large number of packets being delivered, more than making up in any small decline in the number of letters." Sir George said that he got hardly any complaints about the postal service locally, and, given the increase in the number of houses in and around Andover, the postmen and women did a good job delivering the mail promptly.

The recommended last posting dates for mail are Friday December 20th for 1st class items and Wednesday December 18th for 2nd class items.
