Local councillor Iris Andersen, together with photographer David Facey occupied a stall in the Chantry Centre, looking for this year's Carnival Queen. Sir George who happened to be passing wished them good luck, and encouraged suitable candidates to come forward.

"Andover's Carnival has become a fabulous attraction for the town and nearby villages, and I know a lot of hard work goes in to its organisation. The floats have been a particular attraction, but of course we need a Carnival Queen to put the seal on the event. I wish Iris and David well in finding a candidate".
