Sir George talks to David Wise, who put together an exhibition at the Fairground Hall, Weyhill of “Memories of the Weyhill Area 1920-2000”. Proceeds from the exhibition went to a new Kidney Dialysis Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
“This was a fascinating exhibition of Weyhill, put together by David Wise, who has lived in the area since he was born there in 1931. He has meticulously kept photographs and newspaper cuttings; and recreated the fairground and the railway station as they were in his childhood. It is one man’s record of his home village, recording the changes in his own words. It was interesting to see how many people lived in railway carriages between the wars; and the sheer volume of people who worked in agriculture in those days.”
