At the invitation of Des Faherty, Sir George visited the Basepoint Business Centre in Andover, to meet the small businesses that are based there. "Basepoint provides a valuable facility in the town, offering those who need small premises with short leases and communal facilities a base at a reasonable rent." Sir George spoke for about 20 minutes and then took questions. "The questions related to the reform of the business rates; the attraction of Andover as a place in which to do business, and the overall prospects for the UK economy." Sir George pointed out that the town was growing fast, with developments at Augusta Park and Picket Twenty, and this would provide a growing customer base for businesses in the town. He said that Andover had a good location advantage, with access to the east west route - the M3/A303, and the north south route - the A34. Andover was a friendly town, without the traffic problems that confronted some of its neighbouring rivals. After the formal session, Sir George stayed for a working lunch, meeting individual tenants and discussing their problems.
