Sir George opened the Annual Church Fete, raising funds for St Thomas' in Woolton Hill.
Along with the Rector, Christine Dale, he then judged the scarecrow competition, with high quality entries both from pupils at Woolton Hill School, and from local parents. "Fortunately, there were enough gold certificates to give one to all the entries, so the rector and I managed to avoid a difficult choice." The Church Fete had the usual attractions, with atmosphere provided by the East Woodhay Silver Band. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Councillor Graham Falconer was Master of Ceremonies, and the stalls included one about the Neighbourhood Plan, one commemorating World War 1, and one promoting the work of Living Stones, raising funds to modernise the Church Hall.
