Sir George formally opened the Whitchurch Parish Fete 2014, held at The Lawn, by kind permission of Lady Denning. "Sir George said there was a glittering programme of events, including a local folk band called The Grizzly Folk, followed by Irish Dancing and then a display of Alpacas." There was also the traditional Duck Race on the River at the bottom of the Garden at The Lawn, and then a School of Dance and a String Ensemble

The proceeds from the Parish Fete, which are usually over £5,000 go to supporting a wide range of local causes. Sir George thanked the Whitchurch Parish Fete committee led by Aizel Finch and her team, and urged the hundreds of people at the fete to dig deep into their pockets.
