Sir George met fifty young people at Andover College, who are taking part in this years National Citizen Service.
"They had just completed a residential course in Devon, and had now been given a challenge in Andover to raise funds for local organisations. They chose the Crisis Centre in Andover, Bluebells in North Waltham, The ARK Centre in Basingstoke, and 3Smiles, based at the Andover Leisure Centre. Each group made a pitch to the "Dragons", asking for between £50 and £100 in order to help them raise further funds for their cause."
The projects ranged from a Gig at the Southampton Arms, Revitalising the Garden at the Crisis Centre, Car Washing in Andover, and two projects based at Charlton Lakes. "I was very impressed by the team work of each group, particularly as they met each other for the first time a few days ago. I was also impressed by their commitment to raising money for worthwhile causes, and the considerable time and energy which they had already spent helping to raise funds." The Social Action Projects which the group presented will be delivered over a 30 hour period towards the end of July and at the beginning of August. One of Sir George's fellow judges was Kevin Paterson, the Chief Executive at the Andover Leisure Centre (other names to follow)
