Sir George formally re-opened the George & Dragon in Hurstbourne Tarrant, after it had been extensively refurbished by its new owner, Patrick Vaughan-Fowler.
"Patrick has done a sensational job of modernising the pub, installing a new kitchen and fitting out some bedrooms, and he got a very warm welcome from the village when it re-opened".
Sir George said it was proof of the vibrancy of Hurstbourne Tarrant that, at a time when village pubs were closing, this one was re-opening.
The pub will provide employment for up to 17 local people, and it stocks a beer produced by Mark Betteridge, who lives in the village and runs a micro-brewery. At the opening, villagers were invited to choose which of the two beers they preferred, which would be the local beer.
Restoration of the pub took longer, as the pub was badly affected by the floods in the village earlier in the year.
"Patrick has done really well to overcome all the challenges that confront him, and I know the village will give the pub the support it deserves".
