Hampshire's Youth grill local politicians

As part of the Hampshire County Youth Service's Youth Council Development Strategy, Hampshire County Youth Council (HCYC) sponsored a residential conference for young people, in order to initiate new youth fora or further develop existing groups.

The conference was held at YMCA Fairthorne Manor, from the 3rd to the 5th of November. This weekend also saw the culmination of this year's National Youth Work Week, of which the theme is `YOUNG PEOPLE & DEMOCRACY'.

As part of the residential weekend,HCYC organised a "Speak Out" session, offering conference participants the opportunity to air their views to, and quiz a panel of Cllr's, MP's, MEP's and others in decision making roles.

The panel consisted of Gemma Gidley (Chair HCYC), Jo Parker(Vice-Chair HCYC), Cllr. Jo Kelly (Lab), Cllr. Dennis West (Lib Dem), Alan Whitehead MP (Lab), Roy Perry MEP (Cons), Malcolm Rittman (County Youth Officer) and Sir George. It was chaired By County Councillor David Kirk, who chairs the Youth Service Sub-Committee at Hampshire County Council.
