Sir George formally opened Littleworld Day Nurseries, in refurbished buildings on the outskirts of Upper Clatford.
"I was enormously impressed by the way Clive Spencer, the architect, had built and re-designed the inside of what had been a derelict building, and provided such a light environment for a modern day nursery. I was also delighted to see, at the back of the building, a huge expanse of open space, which is a very valuable additional resource for the day nursery".
The day nursery, which is a sister of the Andover Nursery in the Weyhill Road, formally opened last June, and is gradually building up its numbers. It is currently a quarter full, with more and more families visiting the site each week.
"Jan Cooper, the manager at the Andover Nursery, was very influential in designing the interior of the building, and Sarah Belcher, the nursery manager in Clatford has put together a very committed team to provide high quality care for children".
Every 3 and 4 year old is entitled to 15 3 hours a week of childcare, with additional help available to low and middle income families through tax credits. Also, 2 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds are entitled to 15 hours of free early education.
"This week is back to school week, not just for pupils but also for Members of Parliament. It is an opportune time therefore to formally open the Clatford Day Nursery".
