Canon David Williams was installed as the new Bishop of Basingstoke by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Winchester Cathedral.
In a ceremony which included the ordination, consecration and installation of Canon David, followed by a Eucharist, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, three local MPs, the Leader of Hampshire County Council and mayors from Hampshire all attended the service.
"The Dean of Winchester organised the service extremely well, and as Canon David Williams had served in the Diocese for the past thirteen years, there was enthusiastic support from the local community".
David Williams started his ministry in East Africa, serving subsequently in Eastern Kenya before going to Sheffield and then to Winchester.
The Archbishop of Canterbury took the service, and the sermon was given by Dr Emma Ineson, the Principal of Trinity College, Bristol.
