"Toby Balding was one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of British Racing, and he completed the rare hat-trick of trainers in winning the Gold Cup, the National and the Champion Hurdle.
I visited Toby a few years ago, and he took me round the stables at Fyfield and then out on the gallops to watch the horses. You could see his passion for horse-racing, and his talent in spotting winners and coaxing the best out of them. After the gallops, Caro his late wife, cooked us the most enormous breakfast, and we met many of those who worked for him. All those who worked for him were very fond of him, and he will be much missed in and around Andover, where he was based for most of his life."
