Sustrans, the Cycling Charity that promotes safer cycling, held a breakfast Fringe Meeting in Birmingham. This was addressed by Chris Broadman MBE and the Cycling Minister, Robert Goodwill MP. Chris underlined the health advantages of cycling, and Robert Goodwill said the government would shorty be publishing its response to The Times campaign for better cycling. (There is going to be a debate on cycling during October in which I hope to contribute.(
I also visited the Royal Mail stand, as I used to work for the Post Office before I became an MP, at a time when both Royal Mail and British Telecoms were part of the Post Office Corporation. They had a life size stamp of Margaret Thatcher, the first Prime Minister I worked for. I was pleased to hear that they are phasing in Sunday deliveries and Sunday collections, and I know this will be appreciated by my constituents.
