The Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Jan Lovell, cut a cake at the Community Shop in Goodworth Clatford, to celebrate the shop's ten years as a community owned enterprise.

10 years ago, the former owner, Jane Storer, sold the shop to a company owned by people living in Goodworth Clatford and Upper Clatford, who now run the combined shop and post office. In addition to stocking local produce, the village provides a newspaper delivery service covering some 17 miles.

Michael Shellard convened the first meeting 10 years ago which led to the community shop being established, and he was at the celebratory party, together with Sir George Young and Denzil Sharp and the Mayor of Test Valley.

"They kindly presented me with a shopping bag, with the name of the shop on the front, as an incentive to visit regularly and stock up with good quality produce." The Post Office is in the process of being converted and will formally re-open later in the month."

Speaking at the opening, Denzil Sharp said that the shop was the hub of the village, and while it didn't account for the drop in turnover by Tesco, it was evidence of a trend towards supporting locally accessible retail outlets.
