Abbotts Ann held an Apple Day Sunday at the War Memorial Hall, where villagers were invited to bring along their apples to have them turned into apple juice. At the same time, there was a competition for the longest apple peel, a facility to swap apple recipes, and games for children.

"I opened the apple press a year ago, and it was good to see it in action at the end of the apple season. The village did not have quite as many apples this year as last, but the apple press will remain in place for 2 or 3 weeks so any more apples can be pressed if they are available." Any juice that is not taken home on the day will be taken for pasteurising and then sold in the popular village shop. When the apple press is not pressing apples, it converts into a children's swing.
