Earlier in the year, Sir George contacted Michael Widen, Chairman of Test Valley Arts Foundation, and asked if he would organise a competition to design his Christmas Card. “In earlier years, I have bought the standard House of Commons card, but this year, I thought I would ask pupils in Andover schools to enter into a competition, to design a card which I would send out in December. I am most grateful to Michael Widen for contacting the schools, organising the competition and sending me a shortlist of 20 finalists, from whom the final design was chosen.”
The winner was Sabine Novikova, a pupil at Winton Academy, who was presented with a certificate by Test Valley Arts Foundation, along with a voucher for £25 of art materials. Also at the handover was the Head of the Academy, Nathan Thomas, and Julia Drury, who is on the board of Test Valley Arts Foundation.
“I chose the winning design because it represented Andover, with a picture of St Mary’s Church, together with other seasonal decorations in attractive colours.”
