For the last time as the local MP, Sir George joined the Switching On of the Christmas Lights Ceremony at the Ambrose Allen Centre at Tadley.

As in previous years, he was joined by the cast of the Pantomime at the Anvil in Basingstoke, who this year are putting on Cinderella. The star of the show, local resident Keith Chegwin, couldn't join the ceremony, but Cinderella, Buttons and one of Cinderella's sisters were present.

The switching on was masterminded by past Mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr David Leeks, and before the ceremony Tadley Brass Band led the community Carol Singing.

At the Ambrose Allen Centre itself, local voluntary organisations manned the stalls, raising money for worthwhile causes.
