Tadley welcomed Stephanie Cook, winner of the Gold Medal in the Modern Pentathlon at the Sydney Olympics, to the switching on of the Christmas Lights ceremony outside Budgens.

"The Headquarters of the Modern Pentathlon Association are in Tadley, and it was kind of Stephanie to come along and help turn on the lights. She was able to sign a large number of autographs, and tell the large crowd who turned up just what it felt like to win a medal. She also brought the medal along for people to have a look at."

With Sir George and Stephanie at Budgens was Jo Slimin of Tadley Town Council.
