Nixie Taverner signs copies of her book “A Torch Among Tapers”, watched by Admiral Sir John Parker and Sir George.
Nixie used to live in Hurstbourne Tarrant and taught at Harrow Way School, before retiring in Winchester. Her book is about her father Rory O’Conor, who served in the First World War and was in command of HMS Hood when it was sunk in World War 2. He was lost along with most of the crew. Sir John Parker also served in the Hood.
The book is about his career in the Navy, and his philosophy which made him such an outstanding leader.
The book was launched at Taits Printers in Andover, and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jack Taylor made a short speech along with Sir George, Nixie Taverner herself and the publisher Bernard Durnford
