Mr and Mrs Whitmarsh (left) and Mr and Mrs Mew (right) move into their new homes in Binley, having been presented with flowers and a clockwork radio.
The two homes had been built by Kingfisher Housing Association, and are environmentally friendly.
"The homes are timber framed, cedar clad and so well insulated that the costs of heating and hot water is £1 per week. This has been achieved by a full height conservatory on the south side, providing natural warmth; by solar panels that heat the water; by recycling bath and basin water to flush the WC; by wall insulation made from shredded newspaper, a wood burning stove and double glazed timber windows with Low E glazing"
The properties were built by Lovells, and a grant from Basingstoke and Deane made the installation of the energy-saving features possible.
"Top marks to Kingfisher for setting the pace with these "dark green" features."
