At the launch of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Andover were Sir George Young, The Mayor of Test Valley (Cllr Tony Hope), Alison Ryan (Chief Executive PRTC), Mary Rosenthal (Manager, Winchester PRTC, Ian Tair, (Chairman Winchester and Andover Care Centres), and Dawn Elson (Carers Development Officer in Andover.)

Making the Keynote Speech at the Launch, Sir George said "We all recognise what carers need for those they are caring for and themselves prompt and accurate assessment of need, which is regularly updated; continuity of personnel, as people get confused if there are different people looking after them all the time; reliability of service; openness with information; and good links between members of the team."
"Which is where to-day’s launch of a new service for carers in Andover is important. It will help with mutual support; with signposting carers to a destination that will give them support or advice. I welcome Dawn’s work as Carers Development Officer and share her ambition for a full time service with more accessible premises, available for groups."

Alison Ryan said that 99 centres such as the one in Andover were already established, with 30 more planned. Mary Rosenthal said there were about 11000 carers in the Andover area, but many were isolated and needed more support. She hoped the centre in Andover would help them.
