Sir George welcomed the decision of Royal Mail not to proceed with the proposed changes to the postcodes for Overton and surrounding villages.
"I have spoken and written to Royal Mail and explained the strong views of my constituents who were deeply unhappy that they were going to have to change their writing paper, the signs on their cars, the security marking on their valuables - for the convenience of the Post Office. The Post Office never answered the key question - why cannot you reroute the mail by reprogramming your equipment? People felt the tail was wagging the dog."
Sir George addressed a public meeting in Overton last week and was in touch with the Post office afterwards. "I think they underestimated the strength of feeling on this issue. I am delighted that they have changed their mind and all credit to Peter Baker for his effective and lively campaign."
