Test Valley Community Services held a Disability Awareness Day in the Chantry Centre in Andover, offering the Mayor of Test Valley and the local MP an opportunity to find out what using a wheelchair is like, on a prepared route in the Town Centre.

"Many congratulations to TVCS and Tom Ferguson for organising this day, and for bringing home to me and others the problems that confront wheel chair users. While many of the shops and public buildings were sympathetically designed, there are still a lot of kerbs and steps into buildings that have to be negotiated, as well as some very uneven surfaces. Able-bodied people take so much for granted; only when you are confined to a wheelchair do you realise that moblitity is a real issue."
"Pushing my wife in a wheel-chair involved thinking ahead - seeing which aisles in the shop were the widest ones, and with fewest people in them. Talking to other people in wheel-chairs, they said a real difficulty was persuading people to move out of the way!"

Sir George started off, being pushed by Lady Young and the Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Cllr Ian Carr. Then he pushed Lady Young round some shops. Cllr Carr was in the chair, literally, when the tour arrived at the White Hart.
