A performance of R B Sheridan's "The School for Scandal" at Laverstoke Grange raised just under £10,000 for two local charities - see below, from the programme.
"The Rain or Shine Theatre Company put on a sparkling performance of this comedy, and continued through a torrential downpour without demur. Peter Corbett raised a huge sum of money with the auction in the interval, and I hope this type of event can be repeated again."

On behalf of the Laverstoke Charities Committee it gives me great pleasure to
welcome you all to Laverstoke Grange this evening for Sheridan's performance
of 'The School for Scandal'.
The performance this evening could not have been staged without the generous
sponsorship of De La Rue and Mr Jody Scheckter.
I would also like to thank you all for supporting this evening, all those who have
kindly given prizes as well as the numerous donations that have been received.
We are supporting two local charities and aim to generate much needed funds.
The first being the Wessex Children's Hospice Trust that runs Naomi House at
Sutton Scotney. Naomi House relies entirely on private funding and support.
The second being Laverstoke Church, which again if it is to survive it desperately
needs funds.
I am sure that you will thoroughly enjoy the play and hope that you will actively participate in the Auction during the interval.
You may also wish to know that the Committee's efforts do not end with the final
curtain call tonight as we plan to have a I0 mile sponsored walk after the
Harvest Festival on I6th September culminating with a Barbecue at lunch time
in Laverstoke.
If you wish to have further details please pick up a leaflet before you leave.
