Sir George unveils the plaque on the new Heidelberg SM74 printing press, bought by John Dollin Printing Services in Whitchurch.
"This successful family firm has a a growing order book, based on the quality of service in provides. It recently printed the ballot papers for the local and general elections - with very little time between nominations closing and postal ballots going out - and has won work from Epson in Scandinia. Employing some 40 people, the firm has a friendly atmosphere, with pride in the job."

Publicity on SM 74/ (and John Dollin as a whole)

John Dollin Printing Services Limited has invested again. This time in a Heidelberg SM74
4 colour (or 2 back 2 perfector) plus coating unit and extended delivery; this replaces a 6 year old
SM 72 straight 4 colour press.
"This complements our existing 5 colour B 1 (or 3 back 2 perfector) and B2 (or 4 back 1 perfector) presses, both with coaters. This combination plus the enormous growth in coatings made up our minds to go for this particular configuration" explains Ian Dollin, Production Director. "And the amount of colour trade work we do had a bearing on the decision too".
"Our market is very much short to medium run, high quality, fast turn-round work and with the
latest CIP 3 pre-press link-up, which automatically sets the ink profiles on the press having scanned
each plate, the make-ready times for each job are coming down dramatically. Couple this with the faster running speeds capable with the extended delivery (double dryer) and you have the double advantage of quicker deliveries and cheaper prices - a winning formula as far as our customers are concerned."
The firm has grown through investment and offers the complete printing service, from design and artwork through to finishing, including laminating and perfect binding. Already one of the larger printing companies in the South of England (according to Litho Supplies, John Dollin Printing is the single biggest user of plates in this area) and now employing 40 staff, they are well on course for further substantial growth over the next few years.
