Sir George writes to Health Secretary on Bed Blocking
24 Sep 2001
Sir George is increasingly worried that local hospitals such as Winchester are "blocking up" again, as they are unable to discharge patients to nursing or residential homes. "This means that others cannot be admitted for the treatment they need. I have therefore written to the Health Secretary, asking him to intervene."

Money for Social Services Department to Help with Bed Blocking

Last December, your Department gave additional sums of money to County Councils such as Hampshire to help address the problems of bed blocking.
This money was most welcome and it helped relieve some of the pressure last winter.

Bed blocking is now on the increase again in Hampshire, and the Social Services Departments are struggling to find the necessary places in the community to accommodate people being discharged from hospital.

I wonder if you would be good enough to let me know whether you have any plans to repeat last December's initiative in order to make an impact on this problem?

Yours sincerely

Sir George Young MP
