Sir George examines the Whitchurch bells
29 Jul 1999
Sir George visited All Hallows Church at Whitchurch, to see six bells being removed for refurbishment. With two new bells, and two existing ones already in good condition, Whitchurch will be celebrating 10 bells for the new Millennium.
“I was most impressed by the professionalism of the volunteers, who had installed the scaffolding and were winching these one ton bells down from the belfry.”
Sir George climbed to the top of the belfry, up a 400 year old staircase, and watched the volunteers manoeuvring the bells into position before they were lowered down
