Sir George speaks to Millway Conservatives
1 Aug 1999
Sir George with Eric and Alison Wilkinson, at the Millway Branch Conservative Lunch at the home of Major General John and Ann Homan. Eric Wilkinson runs the Conservative Political Forum.
Speaking at the lunch, Sir George said that the recent reshuffle had been a missed opportunity. “The reshuffle was meant to bring to an end the speculation and uncertainty that has dogged Cabinet Ministers for the past few weeks, and made it more difficult for them to focus on their job of running the country. When the House returns after the Summer Recess, the speculation will start all over again.” Sir George said it was absurd that only junior and middle-ranking Ministers had been moved. “We all know there are some people in the Cabinet not pulling their weight; but the Prime Minister seemed to lack the will to do anything about it.”
