Sir George backs campaign to save Post Office
3 Aug 1999
Sir George, under the straw hat, joined villagers from Sherborne St John to back their campaign to save the Village Post Office. “Once the village post office and shop closes, it is almost impossible to get it reopened; this causes hardship to those who find it difficult to get around, as well as depriving the village of one of its focal points.”
In Sherborne St John, villagers are raising £100,000 to buy the exisiting home of the couple who want to buy and run the Post Office. SOPO – Save Our Post Office – has already raised half the sum and are confident of raising the balance by the end of the month, when the existing owner of the Post Office has to sell.
“David Keniston and Cllr Diana Blade have done well to mobilise the community into action. They have my full support.”
