Boundary Commission proposes changes for North West Hampshire
8 Feb 2002
The Boundary Commision's initial proposals for Hampshire propose an extra seat for the county, and some changes to the North West Hampshire seat.
They would put Rooksdown Ward - covering the area round Basingstoke Hospital - into a new Basingstoke constituency; and Sherborne St John into a new North East Hampshire seat.
"I would of course be sorry to lose these communities from my North West Hampshire seat, but these are early days. There will almost certainly be a public inquiry into these proposals, at which alternatives can be put forward. Those who live in these wards will have their own views as to which constituency they want to be part of.
I will be listening to what they have to say, talking to councillors and other MP's before I decide how to respond."

Sir George added that the proposals for his seat were less radical than last time round. "My last seat was simply abolished by the Boundary Commission and I had to start again!."
