In December 2001 Imperial Cancer Research Fund and The Cancer Research Campaign announced that they were to merge to form Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent cancer charity. As separate charities they have made important progress over the last one hundred years but together they can make an even greater impact. Their team of 3,000 world-class scientists and doctors are dedicated to bring new and effective cancer treatments from the bench to the bedside quicker than ever. The Directors General of the new charity (see below) invited MP's to a parliamentary reception to mark the launch of Cancer Research UK.
