Sir George visits car component firm in Andover
6 Sep 1999
As one of his visits to small firms in Andover, organised by the Forum of Private Business, Sir George visited Poole Clayton Automotive Ltd in North Way, on the Walworth Industrial Estate.
“Employing ten people, this firm imports and distributes the mechanism that winds windows up and down in our cars. I was interested to hear that they are co-operating with Insurance Companies to bring down the cost of repairs – we can all support that objective.”
Sir George was told by Mr Poole, shown above holding one of his firm’s products, that the UK should not join the Euro with the pound at the current high level; and that it was getting more and more difficult and expensive to distribute goods in the UK.
“Many lorries are filling up in France and Belgium, and doing deliveries here. We lose the jobs, and the duty on the diesel.”
