Whitchurch says Farewell to Brian Tims
17 Mar 2002
All Hallows Church Whitchurch was full at 10 o'clock on Sunday to listen to Brian Tims give his last sermon as Honorary Curate, before taking up a new post in Shipton Bellinger.
After the service the Vicar, The Rev Michael Grylls, gave Brian and Christine Tims some presents from the congregation, thanked them for their work in the parish, particularly the contribution to the Young Church Builders, and wished them well.
Brian thanked the choir, the bellringers, the sidesmen and women and the churchwardens for all the support they had given him over his four years at Whitchurch, and left some gifts for the church. Churchwarden Marion Flood gave Brian a cheque representing a collective gift from parishioners and paid tribute to the contribution Brian and Christine had made to both church and community.
Brian is moving to Shipton Bellinger where he will be Assistant Priest. Shipton Bellinger is part of the Benefice of Kimpton, Fyfield and Appleshaw where the Vicar is Rev Ian Tomlinson - Brian will in effect be the new Vicar at Shipton Bellinger, taking over from Rev Roddy McLeod who is retiring.
Brian Tims will be licensed as parish priest by the Bishop of Winchester in St Peters Church at 7.30pm on May 1st.
"Although I was sorry to see Brian leave Whitchurch, where he is tremendously popular, I am glad he will be staying in the constituency."
