"At a time when our Monarchy has come under sustained attack by its opponents, the life of the Queen Mother demonstrated its true value. Along with her late husband, She was a unifying symbol in time of war; a statement of continuity in time of peace. A focal point for loyalty and patriotism, a demonstration of traditional British values.
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother charmed all those whom she met, and struck a chord with whose who saw her on television. She was both "one of us", and a member of the Royal Family.
Her informality, her sense of humour, her determination to honour commitments she had entered into - despite failing health - her love of her family, her hospitality, her love of horses and country life - all these will be remembered and entered into the history of the country.
It has been said that her death marks the end of an era; but it does not mark the end of the values she upheld throughout her life.
I will be in Parliament on Wednesday to pay my last respects to this great Lady."
