| Passports, and premium phone numbers for 'public information' |
| The issue: |
I have been trying to find out the latest date by which I may renew my current UK passport (which expires in 2011), without having to undergo the revised procedures that are apparently to be introduced. However, I find that the information on passports is offered on an 0871 number, which jumps, crackles and pops and makes the information incomprehensible. Furthermore, it redirects callers to a premium number (09041941089), which means that, effectively, the passport office is selling the information that ought, in my opinion, to be freely available to the public. Aren't the charges for passports high enough, without this type of profiteering? Similar extortionate behaviour is practised by the DVLA. Thank you for all your hard work, as my MP, over the past years. You have consistently received my vote, even when my faith in your party has wobbled, and this is entirely due to my perception of your commitment to your constituents. |
