Car Tax Hike
The issue: Dear Sir George
Its not often I'm moved to complain or voice my oppinions on governmental matters but the recent budget move by Darling to cripple an already financially creaking working class with massive hikes in taxes on the motorist on the pretext of environmental issues, begs addressing. Surely this is the last straw for the Labour party, and will surely dash any hope remaining to them of being a serious contender in any upcoming election. Lets hope so. I feel totally let down by them and think an altogether better course of action for them would be to try to find a way to stem the massive influx into our country of eastern european car users instead of making us pay pay pay! I'm sure my views today are shared by many. Thankyou for reading this.

My response: Many thanks for the comments on the Budget.

I think people have realised that the Budget was principally about raising taxes, and they don’t believe the environmental alibi that the Chancellor has come up with. Today’s opinion polls reflect that disillusionment.

My Party has made it clear that, if environmental taxes are to be raised, the money should be used to reduce the tax burden elsewhere.

Best wishes, George Young
