Local Housing Development
The issue: With regard to the new housing developments at Picket Twenty and Icknield to include several hundred affordable homes due to start this year, please could you confirm if these are still going ahead? I understand that the Persimmon Group will be building these homes but with the recent "credit crunch" and the subsequent announcement of job losses and a halt on any new developments by Persimmon, I am concerned that this will be abandoned. I hope that this is not the case as I have been privately renting for the past 10 years, paying extortionate amounts of money every month. Therefore, this is my only hope of living in an affordable home, where I would not have to worry about the landlord deciding to sell and having no choice but to move on.
Any update on this would be greatly appreciated.

Date Issue Raised: 04 Jul 2008
My response: Many thanks for the email, and of course I understand how anxious you are that the houses planned for the Major Development Area should be built quickly.
The way the affordable houses are financed depends on the open market homes being built at roughly the same time, in order to help pay for them. I will find out from the Director of Housing what the timescale is, and drop you a line.

Best wishes, George Young
