| Changes to Planning Law Complaints |
| The issue: |
Dear Sir George, I read this article on the BBC News website today with great concern http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7560330.stm I hope as my local MP I can rely on you to fight this further attack by Labor on the publics rights to fight controversial planning applications. This is yet another sneaky plan by Labor to prevent anyone from speaking out against local planning application and at this rate, business and local governments will have carte blanche to do build whatever they like.

Many thanks for the email. The Planning Bill completed its stages in the Commons before the Summer recess. The Government narrowly escaped defeat after a rebellion on the powers given to the new unelected Planning Commission. They may well lose on this in the Lords. Since then, they have tabled a New Clause, which you read about on the BBC website. I share your concern about this, and, as a former Planning Minister myself, I will want to be assured that this is not yet another erosion of democratic rights in the planning process.
Best wishes, George Young
