Winchester & Eastleigh Hospital
The issue: Why oh Why can't we have Andover war memorial built into a fully functional hospital? It is just about a life and death situation to get a bed in Winchester. And if your unlucky enough not to catch anything else. You don't always get the op. that is needed. This (in my humble opinion) is because Winchester is no longer big enough now that Andover is not a market town. Both my husband and I have suffered because of this. I do not blame the hospital staff, but the governments, back to about 25 years of mis-handling. Now they are going to be doing up the outpatients at the war memorial, why can't they go that little bit extra, and relieve the immense problems of Winchester.
Date Issue Raised: 29 Dec 2008
My response: Many thanks for the email – I agree with everything you say. We keep on reading of the large sums of money invested in the NHS – but Andover Hospital is virtually the same as it was 10 years ago. We are at long last going to get a new Outpatients Department in the New Year, but we need to provide more services locally so there is less need to travel to Winchester which is, as you say, under pressure.

As the local MP, I will fight my corner. They have recently re-started doing operations at Andover, and it is becoming possible to see more consultants there. But we have a long way to go!

Best wishes for 2009, George Young
