| MP's Expenses |
| The issue: |
I see the Government is having another go at ensuring MPs do not have to declare the details of their expenses. I believe the latest reason is that it would be too onerus a task to complete. Given that many are forced by HM Revenue to record exactly this information this argument does not hold water. Also as the Government has decided that the House will sit for the fewest number of days since World War II (a fact you pointed out in the Commons), there is even more time to undertake the task.
Could you please confirm that you (and you party) will be voting against the proposal. |

Many thanks for the email.
My view is that the previous attempt to exempt MP’s from Freedom of Information through a Private Members Bill was misguided, and I didn’t support it. I believe we should be subject to broadly the same degree of scrutiny as others in the public sector, and that our audit procedures should reflect best practice in the public and private sector.
The question of how the Party votes does not arise, as this is Free Vote territory. I will not be supporting the proposed exemption. Details of my expenses are already available on my website.
Best wishes, George Young
