What a mess we are in!
The issue: Sir George,
Thought you might find this short clip, albeit about the US situation, interesting as it is relevant to the UK as well.

Why are the incompetent bankers still in charge of getting us out of this mess?

I am so angry, as are all the people I know, at what has gone on and at what is continuing to go on while the country crashes to its knees. To my way of old fashioned thinking, undermining the Nation is tantamount to TREASON, so why are these bankers and so-called financial gurus who have clearly been feathering their own nests, not facing criminal charges?

And while I am about it, why are those four members of the Lords not facing charges as well?

Everybody seems to have forgotten about them. Is there no integrity left in Government?

Seems not from where I'm looking!

Isn't it high time someone forced a General election to get rid of this shower?

Date Issue Raised: 28 Feb 2009
My response: Many thanks for your email, and of course I understand your concern.

Most of the incompetent bankers who got us into this mess are now no longer in position, and have been replaced by new board members who, hopefully, will have learnt the lessons of the past.

It is by no means clear that any criminal offence has been committed, but if it has then I agree that the Crown Prosecution Service should take the appropriate action.

So far as the Members of the House of Lords are concerned, I understand that the CPS have taken the view that there is insufficient evidence to sustain a charge of criminal activity – and no action was actually taken by any of them. However, it would be wrong to pre-judge the inquiry which the House of Lords is currently conducting, and whose conclusions will am sure be published.

No one is keener on a general election than the Conservative Party, but I am afraid it is not up to us to call one and the current Prime Minister has no inclination to go to the country when his party is way behind in the opinion polls!

Best wishes, George Young
